Volunteer Positions    Updated 1-18-2008

Below is a listing of administrative positions within the Devonshire Neighborhood Association.  Through these positions we provide a variety of simple services to our residents which improve the overall safety, quality of life, and enjoyment of our neighborhood.  There are 732 homes in our area.  Consequently it takes a small army of volunteers to maintain even a minimum level of service to our community.  If you think you could contribute to our neighborhood by assisting in one of the following areas, please let us know.

Board of Directors

Collectively, the Board of Directors is the controlling entity for the Devonshire Neighborhood Association. The Board is responsible for decision making and monitors of all aspects of the Association’s activities.


President
   Officer: Martin Schneider

The President is the figurehead for the Association and carries out all duties related to leadership of the Association.  The President also arranges meetings and generally supervises the affairs of the Association.


Vice President
   Officer: Vacant

The Vice President assumes the responsibility of the President in his/her absence.  Additional on-going duties may be assigned as needed.


Secretary
   Officer: Imelda Fresquez

Responsibilities include attending all board meetings and general meetings, take minutes, printout and distribute minutes, keep minutes in binder, and provide official correspondence for the Association.


Treasurer
   Officer: Michael Patton

Responsibilities include depositing checks, making payments, and regular reporting of fund balances and cash flows relating to the Association’s bank account.


Membership
   Committee Chairperson: Julie Corey

Responsibilities include recording membership data, monitoring and reporting of membership trends, and increasing membership levels.


Website
   Committee Chairperson: Martin Schneider

Responsibilities include preserving organizational presence on the Internet and maintaining and updating the various information contained within.


Legal Counsel
   Committee Chairperson: Scott McElhaney

This person necessarily has a professional legal background and is available to provide counsel for legal matters relating to the Association.


Advertising
   Committee Chairperson: Vacant

Responsibilities include selling advertising for the quarterly newsletter and ensuring payments are received.  You will work with the Newsletter Editor and Treasurer.


Special Events
   Committee Chairperson: Vacant

The DNA has two main events, National Night Out (held in August) and the July 4th Parade.  The Special Events Chair organizes both events.

The July 4th Parade includes preparing postcard information and getting it to the printer, get ribbons for best decorated bike, pet, and child, contact Kevin (our off duty patrol officer) regarding fire truck and police escort.

National Night Out is a bigger event held at the Westminster Church front lawn with food, pony rides, face painter, petting zoo and bounce house.  The goal is to have corporate sponsorship pay for the event.  We have a list of core sponsors, but it never hurts to acquire new ones.


Lost Pets
   Committee Chairperson: Jan Hankinson

This is the perfect job for animal lovers.  Your contact information will be on the website and in the newsletter.  We have a list of registered pets (cats & dogs) with descriptions, addresses, names, and contact info for owners.  If someone finds a pet without tags, they contact the Lost Pet Chair.  The LPC looks on the database and attempts to contact the owner.  This helps to ensure Devonshire pets never go to the pound.


Newsletter Editor
   Committee Chairperson: Vacant

Create the quarterly newsletter.  This position is easier if you have some desktop publishing experience.  Article submission requests should be made to the Board Members, Officers, and Patrol.  Newsletter “copy” will be prepared and given to the printer.


Neighborhood Directory
   Committee Chairperson: Nancy Wilbur

The directory includes the names and addresses of all Devonshire adult residents and each household will receive a copy.  The Directory Chair sells ads to pay for the cost of printing.  You will work with the Treasurer to verify receipt of advertising payment.  This is perfect for someone who enjoys working on the computer.


Home of the Month
   Committee Chairperson: Vacant

This monthly responsibility is to select a home in the neighborhood which is particularly appealing.  The criteria are typically seasonal color, seasonal decoration, and/or general appearance of the home and its landscape.  Upon approval from the homeowner, a sign will be placed in the yard identifying it as Home of the Month.
